Job Description

Title

Professional Engineer

Overview

Schroeder Engineering is a small engineering firm serving the Kansas City Metropolitan area. We offer structural home inspections and residential design services to homeowners, real estate agents, and contractors. As an independent consultant, we help prospective buyers make informed decisions on what is likely to be their biggest investment, and we help homeowners navigate foundation troubles while avoiding unnecessary costs.  We have a reputation for being thorough and honest, and our clients say it is easy to work with us.  Just take a look at our reviews on Google! As demand for our services continues to increase, our business is quickly growing, and we are looking to add another Professional Engineer to our team.

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform structural home inspections. Each inspection includes:

    • Performing a thorough visual review of the interior and exterior of a home’s foundation to identify signs of movement and diagnose remedial measures.

    • Providing a verbal summary to clients onsite and sending a formal written report after the appointment.  Our goal is to help our clients understand our findings and our recommended next steps to address problems and prevent future issues.

  • A typical workday includes 3-5 inspections, as well as writing reports and responding to client inquiries, which provides a nice balance between field time and desk time.  A full-time workload can generally be handled in a 40-hour work week during core business hours.  There is flexibility to write reports outside of core hours, but working nights and weekends is not expected.

  • You will see a wide variety of residential structures around the Kansas City metropolitan area. From city dwellings to rural farmhouses, from starter homes to million-dollar mansions, from new construction to historic landmarks, the variety is sure to keep you engaged.

  • Option to perform residential design services. This includes conducting a site visit to review the space and identify load-bearing elements, performing calculations to size structural members, and preparing a written report that complies with the relevant jurisdiction’s permitting requirements.

  • As part of a small and growing company, you will have the opportunity to engage in other areas that interest you to promote the growth of the business and share in our success.

Qualifications / Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.

  • Professional engineering license (or eligible and willing to obtain license).

  • Ample training will be provided on the technical aspects of this niche field.  Prior residential structural experience is not required.  If you have an aptitude for learning, an eye for detail, and excellent problem-solving skills, we will help you hone your technical skills for this specific application.

  • Work well independently.  We have a collaborative team environment with opportunity to discuss questions and brainstorm solutions for unusual problems, but day-to-day tasks are generally performed independently.

  • Technical aptitude with willingness to learn engineering software.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Friendly and professional demeanor.

  • Entrepreneurial spirit to promote the growth of the business and share in our success.

Company Benefits

  • Competitive compensation.

  • Company vehicle or allowance for use of personal vehicle.

  • Paid holidays and paid time off.

  • Professional liability (errors and omissions) insurance and commercial general liability insurance provided.

  • Reimbursement for annual P.E. licensing fees and stipend for continuing education.

Flexible and part-time opportunities are also available!
